Cherries!

July 24, 2010

So Laura took Ellie and me Strawberry picking this summer. We went a little late, but got some good berries and made some great freezer jam. (think fast if you want some). Anyway, as we were checking out with the strawberries I noticed that you could order tart cherries and so I did. I ordered the smallest amount I could, 10 pounds. They came pitted and in their own juice. First thing I made was a cherry crisp to share with some friends we had over to discuss their upcoming move. It came out very well. Laura asked for extra “crisp” and I made a lot. The crisp was good for a few days after as well. Then I made my first pie. I got the recipe from epicurious.com. It is very good and easy as well. I got turned on to epicurious by Eric over at GardenFork. His podcast on epicurious’s slow cooker caramelized onions convinced me to check them out again and I found they do have a lot of good recipes. (the onion recipe works well too, but is not exactly caramelized. It makes a great soup started.) By the way, check out GardenFork if you get a chance. They have a lot of good stuff and it is enjoyable to watch and listen to their podcasts. Below are some cherry pictures.

Akron Marathon 2009

September 27, 2009

Ok, I know I don’t post anymore, Twitter you know…

Anyway, I ran the half this year and Laura trained for the long leg of the relay but she did not run because Elli needed her more. I enjoyed it and felt good. My knees were a little sore in the down hills, but all is good. I was not able to make my goal pace, but I kept the pace I set this week. Now I have to figure out when to do a Marathon next year and how to train.

Akron Marathon 2008!

September 27, 2008

Well we did it! Laura and I ran as part of a relay team in the Akron Marathon. Laura ran the first leg, a 10K (6 miles) and did really well. I ran the last leg, a 12.2K (7.6 miles) and made my goal of running under an average of 9 minute miles. I ran a 8 minute 25 second pace and felt good. The rest of our team did great as well. They were Matt, Erica and Jeff. Lindsey ran the half and also did great. Here is a picture form the finish.
